HEY, SPIDER MAN

More drama! More excitement! More action! The final Captain America Civil War trailer raises the stakes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From New York to Sokovia, the Avengers have saved countless lives from the evils of enemies like Hydra and Ultron. In the process, many lives have also been lost as a result of super powered conflicts that spill over into city streets. People are afraid of the exploits of these new powerful beings called heroes. As a result, the government, assisted by Iron Man himself Tony Stark, seeks to limit the actions of heroic activity for the safety of the public. As Tony Stark puts it; “We need to be put in check.”

“We try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn’t mean everybody. But you don’t give up.” These are the sentiments of Steve Rogers who as Captain America has grown to distrust government authority based on the events of Captain America: Winter Soldier. This difference in ideology coupled with various events create a conflict so deep that an all out war erupts between Earth’s mightiest heroes. A war where everyone may not come out alive.

Just like a living comic book, we see images of chases, fist fights, and explosions, splashed on the screen. We see Ant Man riding Hawkeye’s arrow, we see Black Widow laying waste to military cronies, we get an even better look at Black Panther as he relentlessly pursues the Winter Soldier and that’s not even the half of it. We also see Tony Stark’s best friend Rhodey, as War Machine, being shot out of the sky and falling to….his death? We’re not clear, but things between our heroes get pretty serious. Iron Man and Captian America look as if they’re engaged in a slugfest to the death. When Iron Man warns Captain America to stand down, he takes us back to a line in The First Avenger with his reply; “I can do this all day.” Both of our main heroes are bruised and bloody from fighting each other. After this, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will never be the same.

This was by far the best Captain America Civil War trailer that we’ve seen but no real surprises here right? Who am I kidding? Spider Man! We finally get to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Spider Man and for now he seems to be Team Iron Man. The Spider Man outfit looks very bright, slick, and retro. His costume seems to be a little throwback to how he looked in the comics back in the seventies. It’s an homage to comic artists Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr. With all of the jaw dropping reveals, it still seems as if this movie has even more surprises and the effects will be felt in The Avengers Infinity Wars films.

Captain America. Civil War. May 6.
