Opening this week in theaters is the eight installment to the durable Fast and the Furious franchise. Thrilling audiences since 2001 with slick cars and smooth racing, the film series is showing no signs of slowing down. Vin Deisel announced recently that the ending of this film will signal the beginning of a new trilogy of race car madness. It’ll be interesting to see where this film series will go next. The original film was considered to be a Point Break knockoff with cars, but it was inspired by an article in Vibe magazine called Racer X. It was a crime thriller that showcased the street racing culture of Los Angeles. From there, it became a globetrotting film series with over the top action and based on the box office, audiences have been entertained every step of the way.
With Fate of the Furious, we have a few surprises. For the first time, the action goes to New York City, Dom has turned on his team, and the action is bigger and bolder than ever with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson playing a larger role. In addition to being directed by Straight Outta Compton’s F. Gary Gray, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren will be joining the fun. According to Variety, this one should make over $380 million worldwide on opening weekend. So, strap on your seatbelt for this Friday because it’s going to be a fast, wild, and bumpy ride!
