With early films like Caged Heat and Black Mama White Mama, Jonathan Demme began writing and directing films during the height of the B movie Blaxploitation era. He would soon prove to become a legendary filmmaker with films like Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia. Also having a passion for music, he directed music documentaries for legendary artists like Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. Recently, Demme directed an episode of the new TV series Shots Fired, and a concert documentary film featuring Justin Timberlake.
In describing his filmmaking career Demme has said
“Everything I’ve made, it doesn’t mean they’ve all been good, but everything I’ve made so far, big or little, fiction or documentary, has been something that I’ve been really enthusiastic about.”
