It’s dark and desolate in the world of Blade Runner 2049. Two artistic character posters were released today giving us a sense of the tone and mood of the upcoming sci-fi film.

Blade Runner 2049 continues the story of the original cult film released in 1982. Ryan Gosling is an LAPD blade runner agent who must prevent society from plunging into further chaos. He begins a search for a blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years, played by Harrison Ford from the original film.

The two character posters are fairly simple, but they perfectly illustrate the solitary world that these characters inhabit. These are two men in a dark and empty world on a mission that they must complete alone. In each of the posters, we see the characters surrounded by desolation and they both seem to have a strong intent.

Denis Villenueve, who displayed his expert visuals on Sicario and Arrival, will direct this newest incarnation of the sci-fi classic. Blade Runner 2049 is set for release on October 6 of this year.

In addition to releasing the character posters, the Blade Runner 2049 Twitter account announced a Facebook livestream Q&A on Monday, May 8 at 9AM PT with Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Denis Villenueve.
