Cinema is a reflection of society only. It has been a part of the entertainment industry for a long time. Cinema has created a massive impact on people all over the world. Nowadays, new technologies are being discovered to develop cinema.
The most important thing is that cinema allows us to know different cultures of the world. It introduces us to various art forms and helps us learn how other people lead their lives. Change is the law of nature—everything changes with time. The world of cinema is also no exception to this. From filmmaking to acting, story, and characters, everything has changed.
Along with this, the way of watching movies has also changed. We can say that if someone has not traveled the world, then cinema can make him travel the world sitting at home. That is the power of cinema.
The first projected moving pictures were presented to audiences in December 1895 by Lumire Brothers in Paris, France. They made their device which they named the Cinematograph. In there was a camera, a projector, and a film printer. We can say that it was a combination of these three devices.
The earliest surviving motion picture film is Roundhay Garden Scene (1888), a short film directed by Louis Le Prince. The duration is 2.11 seconds. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the oldest surviving film.
On Boxing Day on 26 December 1906, The Story of the Kelly Gang premiered at the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne. It was the first multi-reel, feature-length film ever produced in the world. The director of this film was Charles Tait.
Moving pictures are called cinema. Because of the movement of the photographs and viewing a series of images in rapid motion with sound, cinema is also called a “Movie.”
A journey that started in France
The Lumiere brothers – Auguste and Louis Lumiere – are often called the fathers of cinema. That is because cinema was born in France and the Lumiere brothers gave birth to it. They filmed workers leaving the factory and showed it to the public in Paris on 22 March 1895. That is also a solid reason to call them the father of cinema. Later they made several more films one minute long.
After that, a lot of countries started making and showing movies. The cinema which we call world cinema is not any one kind of cinema. There is a lot of variation when we refer to American cinema, European, Asian, African, or Australian cinema.
For example, when we call Indian cinema, it is not a one-of-a-kind cinema. A cinema in different languages is spoken in other parts of the country. Moreover, Bollywood is not the only Indian cinema. In addition to Bollywood, independent cinema and regional cinema are also made in India.
Entire segments of a film are driven by technology. Technology provides new effects daily to the movies, making them thrilling and sensational.
The youth tries to imitate whatever is shown in the movies, which reflects their dressing style, way of talking and walking, and so on. In today’s stressful environment, where every person has some tension and problem, it relieves us to watch movies in such a way.
If we talk about today, the era of multiplexes has come. Even more, convenience has been given by the digital platform. Now the cinema looks dreamy and fascinating. Cinema is now just a click away. After the knock of covid-19, the trend of OTT has increased further. Now there are many platforms, including Netflix, Hot star, Amazon Prime Video, Zee5, and where new and old movies can be seen.
Digital technology is improving film production. 3D movies are getting more popular day by day. Cinema is getting better every day with the use of technology. I hope cinema will continue to provide live entertainment and education to people.
